NEW YORK, August 18, 2011 – The Direct Marketing Club of New York (www.dmcny.org) announced today the recipients of its 2011 Silver Apple Awards, now in its 27th year. The Silver Apples recognize individuals and organizations for their outstanding contributions to direct and interactive marketing, during a career spanning at least 25 years. In addition, for the third time in its history, the organization also announced it will bestow a Golden Apple to honor an individual for 50 years of service. A gala to mark the awards will be held Thursday evening, November 10, at New York’s Hudson Theatre.

The corporate Silver Apple Award honoree for 2011 is Japs-Olson (St. Louis Park, MN).

In addition, the Direct Marketing Club of New York will bestow a special Golden Apple to Ralph Stevens, president, Ralph Stevens & Associates, LLC (Boca Raton, FL), for his 50 years of leadership in the direct marketing field. The Golden Apple is rarely bestowed, and this is only the third time in 27 years that a Golden Apple recipient has been announced. "As we look at these recipients, we see a group of individuals who truly represent leaders in direct and interactive marketing disciplines to help brands succeed in building and strengthening customer interactions," said DMCNY Club President Pegg Nadler.

"As we celebrate their achievements, we also mark the dynamics that make our profession challenging, stimulating and very rewarding. This is where marketing is heading – and these people and companies are showing us the way."

Each year, the Club’s past presidents gather to select a handful of individuals and a corporate honoree to receive Silver Apples. The recipients must have at least 25 years’ experience in the business, a commitment to volunteerism and leadership, and a record of vital contributions to the growth of the industry. The Golden Apple honoree is selected in the same manner.

This year’s event marks the 27th anniversary of the award, and a special gala will be held in Manhattan’s Hudson Theater at 145 West 44th Street on Thursday, November 10, 2010, from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. Each year, the Silver Apple Award events also serves as a key fundraising event to support New York-area programs and scholarships for college-level educational curricula and content in direct and interactive marketing. Direct Marketing Club of New York Names Six New Members to its Board of Directors


Direct, Digital and Integrated Marketing Professionals from Private & Non-Profit Sectors To Serve Three-Year Term

NEW YORK, January 13, 2011 – The Direct Marketing Club of New York (www.dmcny.org) announced today that it has named six new members to its Board of Directors, representing diverse areas of the direct marketing field. Altogether, the Board includes 18 professionals, led currently by Pegg Nadler, President of Pegg Nadler Associates.

The new members of the Board, most of whom are appointed to serve a three-year term (2011 through 2013), include: Lori Collins, Corporate Vice President, Focus USA; Scott Ellis, Chief Executive, Rocketseed; Rick Kirshberg, Partner, Early AM Digital; Jeff Kobil, Co-Founder, LDS Group, Inc.; Peter Malamas, Business Development Manager, eWay Direct; and Tricia Reyes, Associate Director of Fundraising, Consumers Union. Kirschberg and Malamas will serve one-year terms, filling the remainder of previously open positions.

“We maintain a very active Board, so we are pleased to have these experienced team leaders joining our organization’s leadership,” said DMCNY Club President Pegg Nadler. “Marketing practice is increasingly digital and multi-channel, with direct’s accountability and measurability setting the pace. Each of these individuals is an innovator in their own practice of direct marketing, and their energy and insight will benefit our membership as we increase the focus on digital and integrated marketing in our programming and networking activities.”

Professional details regarding each of the new Board members follows:

Lori Collins, Corporate Vice President, has been with Focus USA, a leading list management and analytical solutions company for more than 10 years. She oversees the Business Development Group for online and offline data sales, and analytical products and is also responsible for identifying and implementing new and timely data products and services. She spent 10 years on active duty in the United States Air Force before starting her career as a list broker in 1995. Lori’s previous positions include Director, List and Data, at Harte-Hanks and Media Director at CPS Direct.

Scott Ellis joined Rocketseed in 2008 having worked in sales, marketing and business development for over 10 years across the technology, hospitality, sports and leisure sectors. Prior to Rocketseed, Scott was Sales & Marketing Director at Goodform Ltd, a specialist sales, marketing and CRM consultancy. Prior to Goodform Scott was Marketing Director for London, at Hilton Hotels Corporation, where he gained extensive knowledge of digital, channel, and search engine, marketing. A graduate of Warwick University (United Kingdom), Scott is a former professional athlete, who represented Worcestershire County Cricket Club, one of 18 professional cricket teams in the UK.

Rich Kirshberg is Partner at Early AM Digital and is a proven Direct Marketing professional. His track record of developing new products from inception to rollout has resulted in substantial revenue growth. As a leader with over 20 years experience at companies including Citigroup, JP Morgan Chase, Columbia House, Digitas, and Affinion, Rich has produced creative and branding breakthroughs in marketing materials that are innovative, relevant, and impactful. Rich is an active member of both the Direct Marketing Club of New York and the American Marketing Association.

Jeff Kobil is Co-Founder of LDSGroup, Inc. Previously, Jeff was a Vice President with MKTG Services, a company which had acquired his former employer, Stevens-Knox & Associates. Prior to that, he was a principal with The Kleid Company, Inc. He has more than 20 years of list and data marketing experience and has worked with a variety of clients in publishing, catalog marketing, and financial services. Jeff has served as Chairman of the Direct Marketing Association's List & Database Council, and is currently a member of the DMA’s List Leader Group and part of the planning committee for DMA's Data Innovators Group Fast Forward dinner series.

Peter Malamas is Business Development and Interactive Partnerships Manager at eWayDirect. Peter’s focus has been in online solutions that facilitate connections between companies and their prospects, customers, and prospective employees. He has managed business units and held product management and sales roles as VP Sales & Product Management at Executive Tracker, founder of Tactical Business Concepts, LLC and President at idEXEC, an infoGroup company. Peter also serves on the Board of Directors for Habitat for Humanity of Bergen County.

Tricia Reyes is Associate Director of Fundraising at Consumers Union where she is responsible for raising $10 million annually through acquisition, renewal and retention using direct marketing, email marketing and multi-channel marketing strategies. She serves as Development liaison to the magazine acquisition marketing and database management departments to help build and foster productive and lucrative relationships. Previously Tricia was Associate Vice President of New Initiatives at Covenant House, Director of Direct Marketing & Operations at Lighthouse International, and Associate Director of Mid-Level & Special Membership Programs at Thirteen, WNET.

Direct Marketing Club of New York Names Robert Allen as its 2010 Mal Dunn Leadership Award Winner — Plans to Honor Allen at September 16 Luncheon


Former Head of The Vermont Country Store Stepped in To Serve as Interim President & CEO of Direct Marketing Association, Inc., During Momentous Year for World’s Largest Direct Marketing Organization

NEW YORK, August 17, 2010 – The Direct Marketing Club of New York (www.dmcny.org) announced today the that it will bestow its 2010 Mal Dunn Leadership Award to Robert “Bob” Allen, who most recently served as interim president and chief executive officer of the Direct Marketing Association (DMA), a global trade association, while DMA’s Board of Directors conducted its search for a permanent chief executive officer during the course of this year. On August 2, Lawrence Kimmel assumed the CEO position at DMA following a comprehensive six-month search.

Allen will be honored at DMCNY’s scheduled September 16 luncheon (11:45 a.m. EDT) at the Yale Club in New York City, where the Mal Dunn Leadership Award will be presented. The luncheon also will feature Don Peppers, founding partner of Peppers & Rogers Group, a management consultancy with expertise in customer-based strategies and resulting business initiatives.

"Bob Allen stepped in to lead DMA at a critical time, enabling the association to continue crucial advocacy, networking, education and professional development programs while DMA's Board conducted its comprehensive search for a new chief executive," said DMCNY Club President Pegg Nadler. "Bob was superb in his stewardship. DMA's many stakeholders were reassured as the association addressed pressing public policy issues, a continued need for digital and multichannel marketing knowledge-sharing and research, and global direct marketing leadership during this dynamic time for our marketing discipline. The DMCNY Board of Directors — who select annually the Mal Dunn Leadership Award honoree — were unanimous in wanting to recognize Bob in this way. His leadership was unique and complete in this past year, and another successful benchmark in his exemplary career."

Lawrence M. Kimmel, DMA’s chief executive officer, remarked; “Honoring Bob Allen for his leadership is pitch-perfect. Bob came to DMA during a challenging time and he was able to move the association forward.”

Prior to his six months as DMA interim president and chief executive officer role, Allen served as the president and chief executive officer of The Vermont Country Store, where he began in 1982 as assistant to the president. He advanced to president in 1994, earning the distinction of the first non-family president of the business. Allen has extensive experience with a diverse marketing background, currently serving as a director for six for-profit companies in New England: Gardeners Supply; Cuddledown; Susan Sargent Designs; JK Adams; Danforth Pewterers; and Kalow Technologies. Allen received a lifetime achievement award in 2004 from Catalog Success magazine and another in 2008 from the New England Mail Order Association. He is a graduate of the University of Rhode Island.

“I’ve enjoyed immensely my time inside DMA, as its members continue to seek and excel in integrated multichannel marketing strategy, execution and measurement,” Allen said. “I know in [Chief Executive Officer] Larry Kimmel, DMA will continue to benefit in this direction through Larry’s excellent guidance and career experience as a proven leader in digital and traditional direct marketing media. The Silver Apples 25th Gala will also serve as a key fundraising event for the Club. The organization raises money from direct marketing organizations and industry vendors to provide program support and scholarships for college-level educational programs in direct and interactive marketing. Organizers hope to raise over $30,000 for education this year through table sales and donations.

The gala will begin with a cocktail reception in the art-deco lobby of the Hudson Theater. DMCNY mourns the loss of a friend and Board Member


David NussbaumNEW YORK, March 25, 2009 – David Nussbaum, founder and president of Direct Network Inc., died last weekend of a heart attack, according to Monica Feinstein, an account executive with his firm. He was 50 years old.

Since 2008 Dave had served as a DMCNY board member and was responsible for managing the club’s networking events. "We’ve lost a friend who loved direct marketing and who gave back to the industry with his time and dedication," said Reggie Brady, President of DMCNY. The club has made a $1,000 donation in Dave’s name to the DMCNY Memorial Tribute Education Fund.

Dave formed his company in 1994. Before that he worked for CAMA/George-Mann and Prescott Lists. He began his career as a clerk in the list brokerage department at Names Unlimited. During his tenure there list pioneers such as Stan Woodruff and Ralph Stevens were his mentors. Dave commented, "I will always be grateful to those guys. They saw something in me years ago, that I did not see myself."

When asked why he joined the DMCNY board, Dave offered: "I am very honored to be part of the DMCNY board and it’s my favorite club. It is comprised of some of the most talented, creative, generous people you will find in any profession. I only hope I can rise to the occasion."

DM Pioneer Andi Emerson Honored with Memorial Contribution


$1,000 Donation Made to the Direct Marketing Club of New York's Memorial Tribute Educational Fund in Memory of Andi Emerson

NEW YORK, February 15th, 2008 – The Direct Marketing Club of New York announced today that it will honor the passing of beloved direct marketing pioneer Andi Emerson with a $1,000 contribution to its Memorial Tribute Educational Fund.

"We were saddened to learn that Andi Emerson, a winner of our first Silver Apple awards in 1985 and the moving force behind the Caples Awards had passed away on Wednesday February 13th. She will be greatly missed." said Regina Brady, President of the Direct Marketing Club of New York. "The force of Andi's personality was legendary and she used every bit of it to build Caples into one of the industry's most coveted awards with a truly global reach that garnered submissions from nearly every corner of the planet. We can only say that somewhere John is sitting down at his piano and playing a song to welcome her to his side in the pantheon of direct marketing industry greats."

About The DMCNY Memorial Tribute Educational Fund
The DMCNY Memorial Tribute Educational Fund was established by the Board of Directors of the club in 2007 to provide a means for the friends and associates of those club members who have passed away to honor their memory. Contributions to the fund will be maintained in a special account to be used solely for educational activities and will continue the expansion of those activities as the honorees would have wished. Contributions to the fund should be made out to "The DMCNY Memorial Tribute Educational Fund" and sent to DMCNY, 54 Adams Street, Garden City NY 11530 along with the name of the person being honored.

Past donations to the fund have honored Mike Buoncristiano, Ed Burnett, Ed McLean, Bill Carney, Bob Castle and Al Goodloe.
